Low Molecular Weight Dextran and Cardiopulmonary Bypass in the BOS Experimental Subject
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dextran is a branched polysaccharide composed of about 200,000 glucose units. The glucose units in the main chain are bound together by 1:6 glucosidic linkages. A special strain of lactobacilli (lenconostoc Mesenteroides) converts sucrose to a highly linear dextran molecule which has a molecular weight of approximately 40 million. By means of partial acid hydrolysis and subsequent differential fractionation, this native dextran can be converted to polysaccharides of any desired range of molecular weights. The dextrans produced for clinical use are always polymolecular and are therefore defined by average molecular weight.

Non-thyroidal illness syndrome and cardiopulmonary bypass in children with congenital heart disease
Abstract Background: The thyroid hormones influence on all metabolic pathways. After heart surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), serum T3 decreases and remains low for at least 24 hours. Several studies on pediatric have reported reduction of thyroid hormones after heart surgery. This study aimed to investigate the status of thyroid function tests in children with CPB surgery. Metho...

Gadboys, Slonim, and Litwak (1962) reported what is now known as the homologous blood syndrome, which stimulated work on a substitute for blood in open-heart surgery, especially for the priming of the heart-lung machine. The homologous blood syndrome was noted in experimental animals and consisted of hypotension on commencing cardiopulmonary bypass, with early thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, sequ...

Objective(s): To study the effect of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-кB) and cytokine expression and pulmonary function in dogs. Materials and Methods: Twelve male mongrel dogs were divided into a methylprednisolone group (group M) and a control group (group C). All animals underwent aortic and right atrial catheterization under general anesthesia. Changes in pulmonar...

Heparin is the most widely used anticoagulant for the prevention and initial treatment of venous thromboembolism, for haemodialysis and cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and, with aspirin, for the management of acute coronary syndromes. In venous thrombosis and coronary disease low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) have been demonstrated to be at least as effective and safe as unfractionated he...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Dextran Produced by Leuconostoc mesenteroides from Date Fruit Extract
In the present study, the production of dextran from date extract and sucrose as carbon sources by the bacterium Leuconostoc mesenteroides NRRL B512 (f) was investigated. In comparison to blue dextran (Mw≈2000 Da), dextran molecular weight was reduced (Mw2000 KDa). Flow behavior indices of dextran solutions from date extracts were investigated and rheological parameters were evaluated at concen...
